Description
The Krugerrand is a South African gold coin whose name derives from the politician Paul Kruger (imprinted on the obverse, while on the reverse is depicted one of the symbols of South Africa, the gazelle).
It was first minted in 1967, with the intention of supporting gold on the South African market and is still considered a means of payment today.
It was the first coin to contain 1 ounce of pure gold, thus allowing the legal possession by private individuals (especially Americans) of gold not in the form of ingots.
